Finally we normal people can go to space without paying a Russian. And by "normal people" I of course mean "one who has $4.4 million to spend"

Yeah, like 50 years ago everyone thought space travel would be commonplace. And now it's actually happening!

It'd be awesome to have space-ships like the ones in Star Wars or maybe elevators that just go straight to space kinda like those thingamabobs in Halo ODST.

don't know if you knew about it, but for more than a year, space junk has been a concern to astronauts because it does damage stuff in space :S (aah dur....)

    Space Stuff! Spacejunk_animation

that is an animated graphical representation of space junk orbiting earth... a year ago lol. the inner orbit space junk will eventually fall to earth, but the others building velocity using the earth's gravitation pull might send it out into space, stay in orbit and continue its velocity, or gain speed entering the earth's atmosphere either burning up, or hitting the ground. the possibility of space junk to hit a person is relatively, 6,000,000,000 : 1 while standing still, its i think less when u are moving away from the space junk and more when u are moving towards it.

    Space Stuff! Spacejunk4

this image shows the different space junk that is in our orbit. the legend is self explanatory. 1) is russian space junk from satelites, 2) geosynchronous satellites, 3) science mission space junk, 4) junk from other countries, 5) junk that will fall eventually

    Space Stuff! Space-Junk3

thats wat it would look like if the space junk gave off a bright light from a perspective away from earth. it kinda looks like a galaxy lol

man i got real scientifically with this post, i NEVER do that :S

That's a lot of junk. I guess a space station with an inflatable cover or something around the outside is somehow stronger than steel to help prevent damage.

I followed that big post with 3 sentences!

Heh heh heh, nice presentation there Mason.

But yeah, we should just invent the star-wars slow-moving-lasers and blast all the space-junk to small bite-size pieces.. although that might result in fast-moving-junk-bullets... but at least it would be highly unlikely they'd make it through the atmosphere without vaporizing.

lol they were talking about using a missile to blow up a falling russian satellite but that was a year ago. remember the scare about the "toxic gases" from the satellite earlier this year?

Heh heh, I believe I remember that. It was when the Astronauts were returning to Earth, yes? And something happened, causing their shuttle to explode and rain down on some suburbs..

ya, they thought a missile would prevent the gases from entering the atmosphere and everybody was freaking out about it. well, turns out they panicked for nothing so blah. at least its not as dumb as flying a space craft to the moon and crashing it on purpose.

I got up at 3am to watch the moon bombing, and it hardly showed anything... I just saw something on the news about the space elevator. Maybe it's closer than we think!

    Found it
